LAVI PEANUT BUTTER

For Haiti. From Haiti.

An Acceso Haiti product.

Story

Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter is transforming lives in Haiti by improving smallholder farmer productivity, creating jobs, linking smallholder farmers to stable markets, and bringing nutritious snacks to schools.

In Haiti, more than sixty percent of the population relies on farming for their livelihoods. On average, smallholder farmers own less than two hectares of land. They also face challenges ranging from low yields, weak market linkages, poor access to inputs, and volatile climate conditions. Haiti is still rebuilding following multiple natural disasters in the last decade.

Inspired by a Haitian family recipe, after multiple taste tests, and following the strictest of production standards, Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter was introduced in 2019.

avi was born out of partnerships between multiple organizations, including leading Haitian social enterprise Acceso Haiti, with the goal of improving incomes for thousands of hardworking peanut farmers through access to new markets.

Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter is an exciting, new spicy peanut butter from the heart of Haiti.

Spicy peanut butter, “manba pike” in Haitian Creole, is a homemade staple in every Haitian household. Served most often on toast at breakfast, spicy peanut butter is a uniquely Haitian twist on an American classic. Made with peanuts sourced directly from our network of smallholder farmers, Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter has a touch of Haitian scotch bonnet peppers, “piman bouk”, that makes it special.

Lavi is made with 100% natural ingredients, packed with protein, vegan, and delicious! Lavi is great for breakfast in smoothies or on toast, for baking cookies and cupcakes, and for any other tasty dishes that need an extra little kick like sauces, curries, and pad thai. Try Lavi on everything; the possibilities are endless!

*Important to note that the expiration date on each jar is in the French format (D/M/Y)

Partners

Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter was born out of a partnership between Acceso Haiti and Partners In Health:

Acceso

Acceso Haiti is a social business created in 2014 by Acceso, a social business builder co-founded by philanthropist Frank Giustra. Acceso Haiti was built to lift Haitian farmers out of poverty using a sustainable, market-driven, for-profit model. Acceso Haiti works with farmers throughout Haiti’s Central Plateau by providing training on good agricultural practices, supplying seeds and other inputs on credit, providing yearly purchase commitments, and selling high quality, cost-competitive peanuts to local and international NGOs, private companies, manufacturers, and others. Acceso Haiti ensures that farmers are paid fair prices and creates dozens of jobs in the communities where it operates. Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter is yet another market for Haitian peanuts, resulting in additional income for Acceso Haiti’s network of local farmers.

Partners In Health

Partners In Health®, a U.S.-based health care organization, and its Haitian sister organization, Zanmi Lasante, are dedicated to tackling malnutrition and delivering comprehensive, high-quality health care in some of the poorest, most remote regions of Haiti. In 2010, Partners In Health partnered with the Abbott Fund, the philanthropic foundation of global healthcare company, Abbott, to empower Haitians to create local solutions for malnutrition. Through this partnership, and with the help of the local community, the Abbott Fund and Partners In Health built a start-of-the-art production facility for Nourimanba, a life-saving peanut-based RUTF (ready-to-use therapeutic food) for malnourished children. Through the establishment of this facility, the Abbott Fund, Partners In Health, and Zanmi Lasante created local, skilled employment opportunities as well as and a reliable market for local peanut farmers. In 2018, the production facility expanded its work to include Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter.
